If you own a long haired cat, you will no doubt have problems with matted tails or backs. The best tool I have found to remove these mats gently is the cat demating comb. These combs can be purchased at any pet store or Wallmart for under $10. When grooming your cat always do it gently to prevent scratching the delicate skin.

I would personally shave the dog using a #5F blade since the dog is heavily matted and pom dogs have very sensitive skin.
